Davy Crockett – western TV show.
This is a 5 part series which aired on ABC in one-hour episodes on the Disneyland. The series stars Fess Parker as the real frontiersman Davy Crockett and Buddy Ebsen as his friend George Russell. Starting in 1955. The series song sung by Fess Parker was a big hit and this series is what started the coon skin cap craze with all the youngsters that still is going strong today! The third episode is – Davy Crockett at the Alamo – from February 23, 1955. Davy Crockett and Russell join a gambler named Thimblerig (Hans Conreid) on their journey to Texas arriving to battle Mexico’s General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna at the Mission turned fort the Alamo. They see a bison stampede and watch a Comanche tribesman fall off his horse. Davy and Georgie
nickname him “Busted Luck”. Although Crockett and all the defenders perished at the Battle of the Alamo. At this point Disney realized they had a huge hit on their hands and had just killed their hero! So they made two more prequels. In Davy Crocketts Keelboat Race from November 16th 1955 Crockett and Russel are fur trapping in Kentucky when they meet Mike Fink. Mike is known as the best boatman on the river portrayed by Jeff York. Fink challenges Davy Crockett to a keelboat race to New Orleans. In Davy Crockett and the River Pirates from December 14th 1955 the men pick up a traveling singer of songs portrayed by Walter Catlett. The Singer unknown to them is in cahoots with river pirates. On their way to get horses from friendly Chickasaw tribesmen Davy and Georgie are kidnapped by a group of Chickasaws because white men have been murdering members of their tribe. Crockett and Fink discover that the river pirates led by Samuel Mason portrayed by Mort Mills are posing themselves as Chickasaws.
